Clara Durán
Contemporary artist exploring colour, symbolism, water and cyclical creativity
Clara Durán is a multidisciplinary artist whose work blends photography, painting and symbolic narrative to create deeply emotive visual worlds. Her practice is rooted in a synaesthetic perception of colour, a profound connection with nature and an interest in the inner landscapes of women. Through exhibitions, workshops and scientific research, Clara Durán explores how art can open spaces for reflection, expression and meaningful transformation.
About
Clara Durán is a synaesthetic artist born in Madrid. Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (Universidad Complutense Madrid) with studies at Loyola University of Chicago and Master’s Degree in Visual Arts at the University of the Arts London. Currently, she is in the last phase of her PhD thesis in Fine Arts at UCM Madrid. She has been recipient of various fellowships and awards and she has been part of exhibitions that have travelled across Madrid, Sevilla, Chicago, London, Hadseløya, Évora, Pamplona and Bucharest. Transformative journeys in her life path as an artist include India, Peru, Colombia and Costa Rica.
Her artworks investigate the union of the material and the spiritual in the experience with nature. They explore the extraordinary relationship between women and water – with a special interest in rivers – as well as the activation of the four elements in the imagination. She proposes photography through an open, interdisciplinary and experimental perspective that establishes connections with painting, poetry and sound. Thus, the different languages converge in the same artistic body and the sensorial, material, spiritual and symbolic dimensions are intertwined.
She guides women’s circles in the form of workshops, in which the focus is on cyclical creativity and the parallelism between the art process and the life process itself. Being fully present is the foundation of authentic expression, freedom, and power. For this reason, she explores a method that integrates sacred womb-heart-centred practices to truly embody what it means to create as a woman. She has had the honour of training with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and Jane Hardwicke-Collings, deepening on the wisdom of cycles.

Clara’s photographic work expresses a high commitment exploring symbolic, expressive and formal levels in a unique way. Her experimental and open approach to the use of photography in a larger field of media doesn’t contradict an honest interest for photography as a media with a huge artistic potential. Through her different series and pieces, Clara shows passion as well as extraordinary artistic intelligence and sensitivity.
